His current goal is to study at Sojo University in Japan.had been home-schooled since I was 5 or 6 years old. My teacher taught me calligraphy, traditional tea ceremony, koto and many other Japanese culture-related things. Once I graduated from high school I enrolled at the University of Hawaii where I studied translation and interpretation for 1 year. Now I run my own company that provides translation services.y current goal is to become a pilot, so I study until midnight every day once I get home from work in order to get accepted into Sojo University's (Kumamoto prefecture) Department of Aerospace Systems Engineering. There's going to be a pilot aptitude test in November, and entrance exams are going to be held next February. My current aim is to ace the exams and get a scholarship.was fascinated with the pilot I saw piloting the Japanese government aircraft when I was a kid. Apart from that, I also had an opportunity to board a plane a couple of years ago, and as the plane was landing I once again realized how smooth the work of the pilot was.have already taken part in flight course at Honolulu International Airport several times. The more I fly, the closer I get to becoming a professional y image of Japan is that its people always keep their promises and respect rules. The Japanese also care a lot about people around them, and do everything to avoid inconveniencing others. I absolutely love Japanese culture. I've traveled to Kyoto before, where I had a chance to visit Kinkakuji, Heian Jingu, and Kiyomizudera Temple.―Please tell us about your future aspirations.want to become a pilot who would be able to bring both passengers and the crew safely to the destination. I would be very happy to receive a “thank you” from the passengers. That's the kind of pilot I would like to become.had always thought that becoming a pilot was something beyond my reach, however, recently I've come to realize that it might not be as impossible as I thought it was. After all, it all comes down to whether you take any steps towards your goal or not. So my advice to all students interested in studying abroad is “Don't give up thinking I won't be able to do it.” If there is something you want, do your best to achieve it.―Tell us about your background.'m studying at Okayama University (Okayama-city). I'm actually from Osaka, Japan, and I grew up in Chiba when I was an elementary school student. Before graduating from the elementary school, my family and I moved to Hawaii, so I entered and studied in middle school and high school in Hawaii. Since I hadn't studied English very much till I came to Hawaii, at first I couldn't even write my name in English. I clearly remember having trouble caused by difference between Hawaii and Japanese language and culture in several situations.ut by entering high school, I got to be able to speak English well, so I engaged in volunteer, Track & Field club and Cross Country club activities. The people who I met at these activities made me sociable.―What do you study at Okayama University?belong to “Okayama University The Discovery Program for Global Learners” which started since October 2017. In this program, professors conduct classes by accepting students' idea, so students can take the initiative to express their own opinion. That's why I decided to enter Okayama University. This program is “Liberal Arts” program, so it is very interesting that we can flexibly take several departments / faculties' classes following my ●Profi leBorn in Osaka. The most interesting class for me is about NPO. Now I study what kind of activities big volunteer groups are focusing on, and how they manage themselves.―Have you had any experience of cultural difference among yours and students' from other countries at this university?es. That was when I had potluck dinner with my classmates. I brought and introduced “natto,” “miso-soup” and “white rice” with them as the typical Japanese food. But classmates who like natto and don't like are clearly separated according to where they are from. That was interesting. Also, I was surprised the number of classmates who had religious dietary restriction was more than I expected. I think it is one of the best part of studying abroad to understand these kinds of cultural difference from my own experience.―What do you want to try in the future?'m still looking for what I want to do in the future, but I feel like doing something contributing to the friendly relationship between Hawaii and Japan. And also, the idea of “animal protection” is more popular in Hawaii than in Japan, so I would like to spread the idea of “animal protection” over Japan. I wish to make the society where animals are not abused by humans.Enriching Monozukuri withsimplicity and fortitudeMs. Kokoro SekiguchiMr. Asa Nagahisapilot.
