Mr. Ace Gen Szalkus who moved to Japan from Hawaii says, he is interested in other countries culture and want to experience other culture. He is currently studying at Airline course of Sapporo Tourism, Bridal and Culinary College in Hokkaido prefecture. We interviewed him about what he is studying and his future dream.his is because I happened to be suggested by my friend to live in Japan. I am so interested in living in different culture, so I and my family decided to move in Hokkaido, Japan in September 2014. After coming to Japan, I entered a Japanese language school for half of a year, and after studying Japanese, I transferred in high school in Sapporo.rom childhood, I had a lot of chances to take flight. I remembered I got so impressed with flight attendants and I got interested in what they do during flight. When I chose “Sapporo Tourism, Bridal and Culinary College” as the college I attend, these 3 points are attractive to me. The first point is whether it has “Airline Course”. Second, there are a lot of teachers who has plenty skills and knowledge of airline service in the college. The third point is that a lot of graduates of the college got jobs in well-known airline companies. When I was freshman at high school, I began to collect information to be a flight attendant. And when I was junior, I completely decided to aim to be a flight attendant and work in an airline company.his college has great curricula that supports me to pursue my goal. In addition, the access from my home to the college is not so far. That is why I choose the college.irst of all, students at Airline Course need to learn technical term for flight attendants. In our college, there is a real airplane and its cabin that used to flight. So, we can get practical training at simulation class. Moreover, our training faculty has the real economy and business class seats, so we can learn the flight attendant service under the real situation. In addition to service at cabin, we learn announcement, baggage claim and ticketing.t is surprising that we have Sado (tea ceremony) class. This is because taking Sado lesson leads us to understand Japanese “Omotenashi” culture. Also, English proficiency is necessary to be a flight attendant, so I need to get high score on TOEIC.f course. I try to talk not only with my friends of the same age, but also with other age. By talking to people from several age, you can understand difference of Japanese usage between age. You can also gain vocabulary. I strongly recommend to do that when you want to be good at Japanese.am still better at listening to other Japanese and reading. But I still don’t think I can write Japanese well. In order to be good at writing Japanese, you need to step by step. For example, starting from Hiragana or Katakana, not starting from difficult Kanji, or complicating usage.Surprized at culture gap between Hawaii and Japan. But the culture gap tells me the importance of studying hard.―Please tell me what is hard for you during life in Japan. ompared to college in Hawaii, there are so many rules in college in Japan. Obeying so many rules is little hard for me for the first time, but now I think it is good because there are a lot of things to learn by obeying rules.The hardest rule for me is about keeping time. Now I understand punctuality is common sense in Japan, For the first time, it was hard to get accustomed with this punctuality. owever, in order to concentrate on my study, I know this punctuality culture is necessary for students.―Please tell me what surprised you when you compared to life in Hawaii.here are a lot of vending machines and convenience stores. That is very convenient! Also, transportation in Japan is so punctual that I can keep my schedule. In addition, Japanese food is very delicious, and I love Japanese sea foods. There are so many sightseeing spots in Japan like Kyoto and Osaka, but I'm sure Hokkaido's seafood and sushi is one of the best parts of Japan. In the middle of job hunting to get a job in airline company in Japan.difficulty to overcome. But my teachers are so kind to help me. ithout the teachers, I might drop out of college. For example, they translate difficult Japanese into easy one. In addition to class time, they helped In the future, I want to enter Hawaiian Airlines and experience world’s culture―Please tell us about your future dream/goaly future dream is to be a flight attendant, and to flight all over the world for experiencing several culture. And I also want to teach kids about how flight attendants work. ince I'm from Hawaii, I want to get a job at Hawaiian Airline. However, Hawaiian Airlines only accepts apply from over 21 age. Also, in order to work in Hawaiian Airlines, I need to get a lot of kinds of flight attendant skill, so I want to get job experience in airline company in Japan.n terms of study, I do follow my teachers' advice properly. And attitude toward class is important. For example, I go to school earlier and fully prepare for the class of the day. By preparing for class, I can fully understand what teachers say. Of course, I always aim to be the 1st among my classmates.me for job hunting include face-to-face guidance in Japan.ot only teachers, but classmates are great. In Airline Course, there are more female students than male students, but all of us are good friends.ost of you have future dream. But as you know, time flies. If you are interested in studying in Japan even a little, start preparing right now.
