He sent a message to young people in Hawaii who want to study in Japan.―Could you tell us about your life so far?was born in Korea in 1971. I moved to Osaka with my father who was stationed in Japan when I was in the first grade of elementary school. After that, I entered an international school in Tokyo and received elementary and secondary education. When I was 16 years old, I studied in England for 1 year under an exchange program. I was worried about my future then, but one assignment I had to do while studying abroad changed my life. The assignment was “Interview anyone who is a professional.” The person I interviewed was the general manager of the Renaissance Hotel at the time. My experience at this time was memorable, and I had a dream of running my own hotel someday. fter that, I entered the Department of Hotel Management at the University of Denver (Colorado, USA) to pursue a career in hotel management. The curriculum required 1,000 hours of training before I could graduate, and I spent my training days in hotels around the world. In particular, I took part in an exclusive six-month internship at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, Waikiki in Hawaii with great passion and determination. After completing the internship, the General Manager offered words of encouragement, saying, “I will write a letter of recommendation to any hotel, so keep working hard.” After graduating from university, I was able to get a job at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, Waikiki and I was able to start my career as a hotelier in 1995.fter getting a job at Royal Hawaiian, I accumulated experience at various Sheraton hotels. My goal was to own my own hotel, so I left the Sheraton Group in 2006 and joined a Japanese hotel development company in 2007.
